Real playback control

Three simple steps

How to view an Animated WebP online

No extension, desktop app, conversion, or account is required.

  1. 01

    Open your WebP

Choose a `.webp` file or drag it onto the viewer. The RIFF signature is checked locally before display.

  2. 02

    Control the animation

Play or pause, step with the arrow buttons, scrub the timeline, and change playback speed.

  3. 03

    Inspect or export

Review exact frame delays and container flags, then download or copy the selected frame as PNG.

Why a dedicated viewer?

When a WebP looks still, the animation may still be there

Animated WebP stores multiple `ANMF` frame chunks inside a RIFF container. A program can support ordinary WebP images while showing only the default or first animation frame.

This viewer checks the container itself. You can confirm the frame count, loop value, total stored duration, alpha support, and each frame’s rectangle even when another app displays a still image.

Common fixes

Animated WebP not playing?

Use these checks before re-encoding a file that may already be valid.

Windows

Photos shows one frame

Some Windows viewer versions handle static WebP but not its animation. Open the file here or in a current browser to verify it.

macOS

Preview or Quick Look is static

System previews can show the default frame. Browser playback is a quick way to check the animation without installing a plugin.

Web & mobile

An app created a thumbnail

Upload pipelines often generate a static preview even when the original has frames. Test the original file, not its thumbnail.

File check

The extension says WebP

Renaming a file does not convert it. This viewer validates the internal `RIFF` and `WEBP` signatures before trusting the extension.

Animated WebP vs GIF

Better color and transparency, familiar animation

Both formats can loop through timed frames. Animated WebP can use lossy or lossless image data and full alpha transparency. GIF uses a limited palette and simpler transparency.

Quick answers

Animated WebP viewer FAQ

How can I view an Animated WebP online?

Choose or drop a `.webp` file into the viewer above. It opens locally in this tab. In a supporting browser you can play, pause, seek, change speed, and step through individual frames.

Is my Animated WebP uploaded?

No. The viewer reads your file with browser APIs and keeps it in memory on this device. It is not sent to this website, stored, or shared.

Why does my Animated WebP show as a still image elsewhere?

Some photo viewers, preview tools, and generated thumbnails support static WebP but not the animation chunks. Use this viewer to confirm whether the original file contains `ANIM` and `ANMF` data.

Can I pause or slow down an Animated WebP?

Yes, when your browser supports frame decoding. Use the play button, timeline, frame-step arrows, and speed menu from 0.25× to 4×. A clear native-playback notice appears if those controls are unavailable.

Can I save one frame from an Animated WebP?

Yes. Pause or seek to the frame you need, then choose Download frame. The selected composited frame is saved as a lossless PNG.

What do blend and dispose mean?

Blend controls whether a frame replaces its rectangle or alpha-blends with the existing canvas. Dispose controls whether that rectangle remains or returns to the animation background before the next frame.

Does this work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The uploader, native playback, metadata, and responsive controls work in modern mobile browsers. Frame-accurate controls depend on the browser’s ImageDecoder support.

What is the file-size limit?

The viewer accepts WebP files up to 100 MB. Processing is local, but very large dimensions or many frames can still use substantial device memory.
